A Bit About Me
Shimroth John Thomas is a cross-disciplinary designer whose practice sits at the intersection of system, strategy, architecture, photography, and climate.
Co-founder of Create Studio, a multi-disciplinary design firm working predominately in the architecture, photography, and UI/UX space in Bangalore India. Currently based in Melbourne Australia, designing circular and sustainable tech solutions to solve the climate crisis.
In 2022, he cofounded ZeroTag (formerly Untwine), a unique material/product/service/system solution aimed at eliminating single-use packaging waste in the food and beverage industries by facilitating the adoption of a scalable reuse model.
Shimroth also created Phycoforms a startup that utilizes the residues of harvested seaweed to create a range of biodegradable architectural products that can be used as an alternative to the existing materials in the market.

Jun 2020- Finalist of Open Innovation Competition organized by the City of Melbourne for Untwine.
Sept 2020- Untwine publication in RMIT news.
July 2021- Recipient of the Sustainability Award for my major project Phycoforms
July 2021- Grant recipient of the City of Melbourne's Waste Minimization and Innovation fund for Untwine.
Mar 2022- Finalist of the Victorian Premier Design Awards in RMIT news.
Mar 2022- Grant recipient of the State Library of Victoria's Future Founders Venture Scholarship for the startups Untwine & Phycoforms.
Mar 2022- Recipient of the highly commended award in the Student Design category of the Victorian Premier Design Awards for Phycoforms.
Jul 2022- Grant recipient of the Alastair Swayn Foundation design strategy scholarship for Phycoforms.
Feb 2023- Grant recipient of the Reuse pilot fund to pilot ZeroTag with sustainable retailers in Melbourne.
Oct 2023- Completed Startupbootcamp Energy Next accelerator program and showcased our work at SXSW Sydney for our startup ZeroTag.
